SUN04 - Managing Complex Symptoms in Patients With Cancer

Get a primer on applying principles of symptom management to clinical scenarios, including early identification and intervention of common toxicities.

This session meets the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements for ALL prescribers of controlled substances to complete hours related to safely prescribing controlled substances.

This session is equivalent to 0.5 hours of education on prescribing controlled substances.


Learning Objectives:

  • Describe common cancer-associated symptoms and treatment toxicities
  • Describe evidence-based practice to treat symptoms and toxicities
  • Describe management strategies using methadone and buprenorphine in the patient with a complex pain syndrome
  • Apply principles of symptom management to clinical scenarios
  • Explore ways to partner with patients to better control symptoms
